Former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido Thrown Into Prison

Former Governor, Sule Lamido
 
A Jigawa State Magistrate Court has on Tuesday, remanded a former governor of the state, Sule Lamido, in prison custody.
 
According to the Chief Magistrate Usman Lamin, Lamido will remain in Dutse prison until May 4 when applications for his bail will be decided.
 
The magistrate said he needed time to decide on the application for bail and another on the police’s First Investigation Report, FIR, brought as evidence in the case.
 
Lamido is being prosecuted by Ikenna Ekpunobi who obtained a fiat by the Jigawa State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Sani Gabbas. 
 
The ex-governor is being prosecuted on a four-count charge of inciting disturbance contrary to section 114 of the Penal Code, disturbance of public peace contrary to section 113 of the Penal Code, defamation of character punishable under section 392 of the Penal Code and criminal intimidation punishable under section 397 of the Penal Code.
 
Mr. Ekpunobi was supported by two counsel, Yahya Basirka and Aliyu Kiyawa. After the ruling, security operatives at the court and around Dutse used tear gas to disperse the crowd protesting the arrest of the former Governor.
 
Mr. Lamido was arrested on Sunday in Kano and his houses in Kano and Jigawa searched. He was brought to Jigawa on Tuesday morning.

Woman Returns More Than N1.8m She Found in a Bag Inside Train

A woman in Spain was thanked by a local train station after finding and returning a bag containing more than €8,000 (N1.8m) in cash.     According to a statement by Barcelona Metropolitan Transport, the woman found the bag around 10 a.m. Thursday and quickly reported it to an employee.   Staff discovered that the bag contained €8,575 in cash, the equivalent of about $9,000, and soon received a report that a woman at Terminal 1 of Barcelona's El Prat airport was missing a bag.   Barcelona Metropolitan Transport was able to reunite the woman with her handbag and the large sum of cash, but did not record the identity of the woman who turned in the bag.   The case marked the second time in a month that a large sum of money was found on public transit.
