Former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido Thrown Into Prison

Former Governor, Sule Lamido
 
A Jigawa State Magistrate Court has on Tuesday, remanded a former governor of the state, Sule Lamido, in prison custody.
 
According to the Chief Magistrate Usman Lamin, Lamido will remain in Dutse prison until May 4 when applications for his bail will be decided.
 
The magistrate said he needed time to decide on the application for bail and another on the police’s First Investigation Report, FIR, brought as evidence in the case.
 
Lamido is being prosecuted by Ikenna Ekpunobi who obtained a fiat by the Jigawa State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Sani Gabbas. 
 
The ex-governor is being prosecuted on a four-count charge of inciting disturbance contrary to section 114 of the Penal Code, disturbance of public peace contrary to section 113 of the Penal Code, defamation of character punishable under section 392 of the Penal Code and criminal intimidation punishable under section 397 of the Penal Code.
 
Mr. Ekpunobi was supported by two counsel, Yahya Basirka and Aliyu Kiyawa. After the ruling, security operatives at the court and around Dutse used tear gas to disperse the crowd protesting the arrest of the former Governor.
 
Mr. Lamido was arrested on Sunday in Kano and his houses in Kano and Jigawa searched. He was brought to Jigawa on Tuesday morning.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the deceased was buried after a commendation service by the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) on Saturday. Speaking at the burial ceremony, Gov. Deeper Life Church Ordered to Pay Celestial Church N5million

The Court of Appeal, Lagos Division has ordered the Registered Trustees of Deeper Christian Life Ministry (DCLM) to pay N5 million as damages for trespass on land owned by the Celestial Church of Christ (CCC). This means that the Appeal Court upheld an earlier judgement by a Lagos High Court.     It was gathered that the CCC had, through its representative, Joseph Ebhodaghe, sued DCLM over a disputed land measuring approximately 1055.864 square meters, situated at Mulero area of Agege and registered as No. 75 Volume 2004T at the Lagos State Land Registry, Ikeja.   At the High Court, Justice Candide-Johnson in a judgment delivered on January 17, 2014, declared Celestial Church as the rightful owner of the disputed land and awarded N5m as damages against Deeper Life.   The court also granted a perpetual injunction restraining DCLM, its agents or servants from further trespass on the disputed land.   But, DCLM dissatisfied with the ...

  A SEMA official gathering the remains of the suicide bombers   Three suspected Boko Haram suicide bombers have died in an attempt to attack Muna Garage, Dabarmari and Dusuma villages in Maiduguri metropolis.   The incident occurred at about 4:38am on Sunday morning. Only the three suicide bombers all males, were affected by the blast.   Officials of the Borno State of the Emergency Management Agency were on ground to santize the area of the bombing and evacuate the remains of the bombers.   See the photos below;
