See the Baby Girl Who Was Born With a Fully-Formed Third Leg Coming Out of Her Groin
A little baby girl has left doctors seriously stunned after being born with a fully-formed third leg coming out of her groin.
According to Daily Star UK, the baby – yet to be named – was born last week with the extremely rare defect but has had it successfully removed.
Doctors believe the extra limb was down to a parasitic twin – when twins don’t separate but one develops at the expense of the other.
It’s a rare occurrence seen in just one in 100,000 births.
Srilatha Kanchanapally, 25, found out about her daughter’s deformity during a routine scan in December and praised the surgeons after the operation on Sunday (March 26).
“I am glad that we have been blessed with such a beautiful baby,” she said. “I was very confident that the doctors would be able to find a way to operate on the unwanted limb.
“They didn't disappoint us. They are God-sent to us.”
She gave birth at Jangaon district hospital in India on Tuesday (March 21), but was moved two days later to Niloufer hospital for the operation.
Dr K Srinivas, who helped with the complex delivery, said: “Other than the extra limb, the baby was born with healthy vitals and she is in good health.”
The operation to separate the limb took three hours and the baby is said to be recovering well.
It comes after a mum was left “traumatised” by the birth of her little girl when she emerged with thick white skin, red eyes and inverted lips.
