  A soldier and 4 others were killed today by an Improvise Explosive Device. The incident happened near a military checkpoint at the outskirts of Biu town, Borno State.   In a statement released by the Acting Director Army Public Relations, Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman he expressed regrets at the loss of lives and pledged government's commitment to help those affected by the blast.   The statement read:  "At about 8.15am today a tricycle, known as “Keke NAPEP” unknowingly stepped on an Improvise Explosive Device (IED) planted by the side of Biu -Damboa road close to a military checkpoint at the outskirts of Biu town, Borno State.   "Unfortunately, the IED exploded instantly killing 4 persons comprising of a woman with her baby and 2 other male adults. Three other persons were injured including a soldier and they were immediately evacuated to Biu General Hospital. We regret to state that the injured soldier also died at the hospital.   "The gener

People have been sharing pictures of the donkeys with diapers on social media   Donkeys have been banned from entering Kenya's north-eastern town of Wajir unless they wear nappies. Officials say the rule is to protect the town's newly laid tarmac road.   A letter told donkey-cart owners they must manage their animal's faeces  "to avoid poop all over the tarmac road creating nuisance".   BBC Monitoring's Abdullahi Yusuf Osman in Kenya says cart owners are complying - some sharing tips on social media on how to attach nappy sacks.   Donkey carts are a common sight in Wajir's town centre, our reporter says.   A similar nappy order was issued in Limuru, about 50km north-west of the capital, Nairobi, in 2007 but it was never put into practice, he says.   The authorities in Wajir, which is more than 600km north-east of Nairobi, are probably keen to protect the new tarmac road after waiting decades for such development, our corresponde

  The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the Saturday’s Nasarawa/Toto Federal Constituency bye-election inconclusive.   The Constituency Returning Officer of the election, Dr Wilfred Uji of Federal University, Lafia, Nasarawa State, made this known while the announcing the outcome of the poll in Nasarawa, Nasarawa Local Government Area of the state on Sunday.   Uji cited Section 53 of the Electoral Act which gives the commission the power to cancel election in polling units where there is over voting.   “For Nasarawa/Toto federal constituency, we have a total number of 202,338 registered voters for the election out of which 76,475 were accredited and the total vote cast was 75,826 and we have 74,848 valid votes and the rejected votes stand at 978. “The cancelled votes taken from the vote cast stand at 39,150 and the four political parties that participated at the bye-election scored the following votes, APC scored 46,559; PDP scored 17,0

Protesters took to the street to protest the rape incident   A teenage girl who was brutally raped by at least 33 men in Brazil has finally spoken out about the sad ordeal. In video that circulated online, the girl is filmed being brutally r*ped by 33 men who wanted to humiliate her.   The 16-year-old was attacked at her 19-year-old boyfriend’s house in Rio de Janeiro around 1am last weekend when she woke up and found herself surrounded by more than 30 men. They were all armed and at least some of them were involved in her rape.   Later, a 40-second video of the attack surfaced online on Wednesday, with the caption: ‘Pounded the girl — get it? Hahaha.’ However, the tweets and video has now been removed on twitter.    In a brief interview with O Globo newspaper, the 16-year-old said:  ‘I want them to await the justice of God. I feel like trash.’ ‘It’s the stigma that hurts me the most. It is as if people are saying “It’s her fault. She was using scanty clothes”.’

William Scott has been charged by the police for sharing the clip on his Snapchat   A shocking video has been circulated on Snapchat by a 16-year-old boy identified as William Scott showing a girl willingly having s*x with 25 boys in her school toilet.   The randy lads were filmed on the school's security camera system trailing in and out of the loos and even recorded the incident on Snapchat, Dailystar reports.   School staff were shocked to discover that the 15-year-old girl was not forced into the act rather she willingly allowed the boys to have s*x with her as they took turns.   Local news station Fox4 reports many people in Lee County, Flordia, where the alleged incident took place, have been left shocked.   Eric Struble, a dad of two 15-year-old girls at the school, was asked for a reaction to the allegations. The angry man stabs his girlriend in broad daylight   In Cebu, the Philippines, a guy spotted his cheating girlfriend with another man. Enraged, he grabbed a knife and took the girl hostage.   Out on a busy street in broad daylight, he held her by the neck and threatened her at knife point as the scene kept attracting more and more onlookers. Eventually, the tension escalated and as the girl tried to tear herself out of his grasp, he stabbed her.   That prompted the onlookers to intervene and move on to the guy. The gorilla was shot dead after it grabbed and refused to let go a boy who fell into its enclosure   A gorilla has been shot dead after it grabbed a boy who fell into the enclosure housing the big ape. The gorilla refused to let go of the child.   The boy had climbed through a barrier at Cincinnati Zoo and fell into the moat of an enclosure housing a 180kg lowland gorilla named Harambe.   The zoo said it was forced to take action after Harambe picked up and dragged the boy.   ‘[The officials] made a tough choice and they made the right choice because they saved that little boy’s life. It could have been very bad,’ said zoo director Thane Maynard.   Maynard said that the boy was not being attacked but he ‘certainly’ was at risk. He added that a tranquiliser would not have worked quickly enough.   ‘We are all devastated that this tragic accident resulted in the death of a critically-endangered gorilla. Government Ekpemupolo aka Tompolo It has been gathered that troops of the Nigerian Army stormed the home of ex-militant leader, Chief Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo in a bid to arrest him  after laying a siege to the building for several hours. According to a report by Punch, the soldiers made their way into the building after several gunshots. The building which is said to be owned by Tompolo, also served as a guesthouse. The soldiers were also said to have broken into the community shrine (Oporoza Temple), destroying important artifacts after they failed to apprehend Tompolo, who was their prime target. Tompolo is believed to be the chief priest of the Gbaramatu goddess. The temple is a stone throw from the invaded guest house. Arrested Fulani herdsmen Some arrested Fulani herdsmen who participated in the deadly April 25 massacre of residents in the Nimbo community in Enugu State have made shocking revelations, Punch reports. Among the suspect, is a 24-year-old Mohammadu Zurai who was arrested  alongside four other suspects – Ciroma Musa (3), Sale Adamu (33), Suleiman Laute (43) and Haruna Laute (24) by the Inspector-General of Police Special Intelligence Response Team told the police that at least 100 Fulani herdsmen from seven states took part in the massacre. According to the suspect, Fulani leaders rearing cows in Taraba, Kogi, Benue, Nasarawa, Katsina, Niger and  Kaduna States contributed representatives to take part in the attack. Zurai, a Fulani herdsman living in Kogi State,  said he was born in Enugu State even though his family are from Garba Shehu town in Taraba State. Doctors conducted a scan on her which revealed her abdomen was swollen with fluid so the medics were left to believe the cause might be as a result of appendicitis. The trunk line is located along the Seria Creek near Abiteye, a few kilometres away from the company’s multi-billion dollars Tank Farm in Escravos, Warri South West local government area of Delta State. The Punch reports that the incident, which occurred midnight, was noticed by workers in the production department when they observed drop in production pressure. A top Chevron management officer and a security source both separately confirmed the incident to our correspondent.
