The dog died after killing four deadly cobras   A hero dog has died after it stood its ground against four deadly cobras to save his owner’s family from four venomous reptiles.  According to  Deccan Chronicle  the dog sacrificed its life to save eight members of his master’s family.    It was gathered that the Doberman dog fought a bloody battle with four mountain cobras for hours and killed all of them. Minutes after he emerged victorious, the dog died due to the poisonous effects of repeated stings by the snakes.   It was gathered that the incident took place on Monday night as the snakes tried to sneak into the house of Dibakar Raita of Sebekapur village under Raygada block of Gajapati district, nearly 400 km from here.   But, the dog resisted the reptiles and challenged the cobras to a fight.   The Bayelsa state government led by Governor Seriake Dickson, have been given a seven-day ultimatum by the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Zone B to meet the demands of university lecturers in order to avoid sealing government house in the state.   According to reports, lecturers in the state-owned Niger Delta University (NDU) have been on strike for over two months over the non-payment of five months salaries and the inability of government to meet their demands.   A statement released by Pedro Obi, the coordinator, NANS zone B, while lamenting the effect of the industrial action on students, asked the government to act before the ultimatum elapses.   “NANS frowns at the continued stay at home of our fellow students of Niger Delta University, Wilberforce Island through no fault of theirs. “It is on record that these lecturers are being owed over five months salaries by the state government, and the question is, how do you expect these lecturers

  A randy father has been caught pants down r*ping his 13-year-old daughter. However, the man stunned the court by telling the judge that he was merely teaching her to be an adult.   New Zimbabwe  reports that the Mahlanzi village father, who cannot be named to protect the victim’s identity, was caught by his son committing the heinous act.   Gokwe-Kwekwe regional magistrate, Amos Mbobo, convicted and sentenced him to 20 years in prison. He will however, spend an effective 18 years behind bars after two years were conditionally suspended.   Magistrate Mbobo said cases of rape of children by parents and guardians were on the increase and called for stiffer penalties.   Giving details of how it happened, prosecutors told the court that on July 12 this year, the girl was preparing to go to school when his father raped her.   “The victim was preparing to go to school when her father approached and instructed her to lie on her stomach before he forcibly undressed h

UNIJOS gate   Prof. Sebastian Maimako, the new Vice Chancellor of the University of Jos, on Wednesday narrowly escaped death.   The man was nearly killed after some gunmen invaded his private residence in Eto Baba area of Jos North.   According to The Punch, the gunmen who were said to have attacked the house at about 8.30pm on Wednesday, were however, not able to penetrate the house.   According to the report, the vice chancellor who assumed office in June, was out of the country as of the time of the attack.   Two of the VC’s guards were not as lucky as their boss as they were killed by the gunmen.   Maimako took over as the VC on June 22, succeeding Prof. Hayward Mafuyai.   More details later...

Pope Francis falls as he arrives at the Jasna Gora shrine in Czestochowa, Poland July 28, 2016. © Stringer / Reuters   It was shock on the faces of people as Pope Francis fell down during holy mass in front of millions as he visited Czestochowa, Poland.    The 79-year-old pope, who hails from Argentina, was walking on a stage when he suddenly fell and was quickly helped to his feet by other religious figures. He subsequently took to his seat, continued the Mass and read his homily normally.   Francis suffers from a medical condition called sciatica, in which pain sometimes severely affects his leg and lower back.   He is on a five-day visit to Poland and was visiting the country’s holiest shrine in the city of Czestochowa, which is in the south of the country.   Watch video below:

  An ex-MP was one of two suicide car bombers who carried out Tuesday's deadly attacks in Somalia's capital, Mogadishu, militants have said.   Salah Nuh Ismail, 53, was among those who killed 13 people in the suicide attacks near the city's main airport, the al-Shabab group said.   Also known as Salah Badbado, the former member of parliament quit the Somali parliament in 2010 after denouncing lawmakers as  "infidels" .   At least 13 people were killed in the two car bomb attacks near an entrance to the airport in Mogadishu, where there is also a base for African Union (AU) peacekeepers. Five others were injured, most of the dead were UN contractors who operate near the scene of the explosions, Police chief Bishar Gedi told reporters   Local journalists said one of the bombs was detonated by a suicide attacker near a checkpoint. Stephen Keshi   The late former coach ‎of the Super Eagles, Stephen Keshi, is being laid to rest.   The funeral Mass for Keshi is now ongoing at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Airport road in Benin, Edo State.     It be recalled that Keshi died on June 8‎ in Benin at the age of 54, months after the end of his four-year spell as coach of the Super Eagles.   He was one of the only two people to have won the African Cup of Nations both as player and as coach in 1994 and 2013.   The remains of the former captain of the senior national team were brought through the centre ‎aisle of the church with his children, family members and friends following behind.     Present at the ceremony is a delegation of Nigeria Football Federation, led by its President, Amaju Pinick.   Also present is the Chairman of the Edo State Football Association, Frank Ilaboya, and former team mates of the late football strategist, including Austin Eguavoen.   See more photos bel

The chinese couple   While speaking at the Ebute-Meta Magistrate’s court sitting in Lagos state, a hotel attendant, Emeka Nwaegbo, has told the court that 47-year-old Chinese lady, Zhen Zhen attempted to kill her 41-year-old lover, Leo Feng, when she set Ernest Hotel in the Ikeja area of Lagos on fire.   At the resumed hearing of the case yesterday, Nwaegbo told the court that Zhen accused Feng of sleeping with her at the hotel on Allen Avenue, Ikeja, on July 4, without giving her food, which informed her decision.   According to a report by Punch, Nwaegbo told the court that the lovers were customers at the hotel, adding that Feng, who was indebted to the hotel, dropped his personal effects, including passport, to assure the management that he would pay his outstanding debts.   He said,  “At about 10.30pm, they both checked into the hotel. The man dropped his belt, money, passport and socks with the receptionist downstairs because they owed the hotel some money.

Kiran Sheikh and Joe Campbell afer they were reunited   The man identified as Joe Campbell was able to save a baby girl from death when he found her abandoned in a phone box.   22 years after, the man has been reunited with the now grown-up girl, Kiran Sheikh.   While trying to look for him, all Kiran Sheikh, 22, knew about the man that found her is that his name is John or Joe Campbell and that he is Nigerian.   She then tried to find him by all means.   Following an appeal run in the Metro for the man who saved her, Kiran Sheikh was brought together with Joe Campbell for a sit down after the fateful day in 1994 when he discovered her.   Campbell had initially thought the small bundle was a  “bag of chips,”  before discovering the contents were far more precious.   According to The Metro, Sheikh’s biological mother made the decision to abandon her daughter because she was trapped in an abusive relationship.   She then called charity group the Samari
