Buhari Leaves To Malta Today To Attend Commonwealth Heads Of Government Meeting

President Muhammadu Buhari will leave Abuja today, Thursday, November 26 for Malta to participate in the 2015 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting which begins in the island nation on Friday. The Commonwealth is made up of Britain, Nigeria and 51 other countries that work together to pursue common goals and promote development, democracy, peace, security and good governance.
President Buhari and other Heads of State and Government who will be in Malta for this year’s summit are expected to deliberate on fresh Commonwealth initiatives on development and climate change with a view to adding greater value to ongoing global efforts in these areas. A new Secretary-General of the Commonwealth who will take over from the incumbent, Kamalesh Sharma, will be announced at the summit, which will also feature the presentation of a progress report on the eradication of polio. The Head of the Commonwealth, Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, will formally declare the summit open and host a banquet in honour of President Buhari and other participating Heads of State and Government.

Explosion Rocks Shell Trunkline in Ogoniland, Rivers State (Photos)

Trunkline explosion in Goi community   A trunk line which belongs to the Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) carrying crude oil in the Goi community in the Ogoniland area of Rivers State was engulfed in fire and flames on Monday morning.    An environmental activist, Celestine Akpobari, who visited the site, disclosed that the inferno occurred just a few meters away from a military surveillance post. According to her, the fire immediately followed the sound of an eruption affecting the Agbada/Bomu trunk line.   "Goi, another Ogoni community, is on fire this early morning from an eruption on the 28-inch Agbada/Bomu trunkline belonging to Shell, which is just a few meters from the surveillance post. This is Bad: One Shot Dead as Task Force Demolish Shanties in Lagos Community, Residents Sleep in Canoes (Photos)

    Operatives attached to the Lagos State Task Force on Environmental and Special Offences (Enforcement) Unit in company with some marine policemen and hoodlums, have reportedly demolished no fewer than 150 structures on waterfronts in Otondogbame, in the Lekki area of Lagos State.   According to Punch Metro, the operatives stormed the community around 5am on Sunday, shooting indiscriminately, during which a resident, identified as a 20-year-old David Aya, was killed by a stray bullet.   It was gathered that several others, including one Monday Idowu, were also said to have sustained gunshot injuries as the team wet the structures with kerosene and set fire to them.   Photos released online showed that some of the displaced residents, who had yet to find alternative settlements, stayed on boats.     While speaking with a correspondent, a resident identified as Jonathan Zosu, disclosed that the demolition was carried out w...

The burial of the former governor of Kogi state and candidate of the APC in the inconclusive governorship poll in the state , Prince Abubakar Audu, takes place today at Ogbonicha in Ofu Local Government Area. Audu was buried at 2 pm Monday afternoon. The burial rites were conducted by a team of Imams . Before his burial, men and women of faith engaged in fervent prayers to bring Audu back to life. As the prayers continued, some people started shouting loudly that he had risen. This led to assertions that Audu came back to life. Rumours quickly spread wide. President Buhari's nickname for his former colleague IBB has been revealed and its quite shocking and hilarious at the same time...check on it!     President Buhari who presided over a Council of State meeting this week at the State House in Abuja, included on the guest list, former head of state, Major General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida popularly known as IBB.   It can be recalled that President Buhari and Babangida know each other very well as Babangida’s tenure as military dictator began on August 27, 1985, when he overthrew (then) Major General Muhammadu Buhari in a coup.   All that is now history as the duo cordially greeted each other at the meeting.
