Maryam Babangida was the wife of General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, who was Nigeria's head of state from 1985 to 1993. She died in December 27, 2009.

Yaya Toure has beaten Yacine Brahimi, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Andre Ayew and Sadio Mane to the BBC African Footballer of the Year 2015 award. The BBC has announced on their website on Friday after weeks of voting that 32-year-old Ivory Coast midfielder, Yaya Toure, has become only the third player, after Nigeria's Nwankwo Kanu and Jay-Jay Okocha, to receive the honour twice.
