Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello
It was an emotional afternoon as the
newly inaugurated governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, broke
down during his inaugural speech while recalling the sacrifices made by
his mother in raising him.
The governor while giving his inaugural speech broke down in tears
at the Confluence Stadium in Lokoja, the state capital, as he recounted
how he reached to where he is today. He gave thanks to the almighty God
who has guided him all through to the level he is today.
“I stand here today, a grateful man; I am to the Almighty God
the eternal one, who led a young boy, fatherless, to this very day of my
swearing in as governor,” he said.
He thanked his father who died while he was very young for leaving a
positive legacy and praised his mother, Hajiya Hauwa Bello for her
unequal effort in raising all the six of them.
Almost in tears, he said: “Despite the anguish of young
widowhood, your values steadied me through the turbulence of youth and
my years of self-discovery.”
He praised the late Abubakar Audu for his contributions to the
development of the state and the impact he played in his political
life.
Alhaji Yahaya Bello is from the Ibira tribe of Kogi state and is
the youngest democratically elected governor of a state in Nigeria at
40.
