Professor Ade Ajayi’s book on Crowther, source of this letter Ajayi Crowther was ordained as the first African bishop of the Anglican Church. However, his background was rough. He was 12 years old when he was captured, along with his mother and toddler brother and other family members, along with his entire village, by Muslim Fulani slave raiders in 1821 and sold to Portuguese slave traders. In his Feb 22nd, 1837 letter to Rev. Williams Jowett, then Secretary of the Church Missionary Society, Crowther narrated his capture into slavery and his rescue. Read the lengthy but insightful letter credited to the Nigerian legend below: Rev. and dear Sir, As I think it will be interesting to you to know something of the conduct of Providence in my being brought to this Colony, where I have the happiness to enjoy the privilege of the Gospel, I give you a short account of it, hoping I may be excused if I should prove rather tedious in some particulars. A man has been pictured fearlessly moving around and bonding with fear-inducing lions without feeling fear himself. Kevin Richardson and his lions The man, Kevin Richardson, who has been named a 'Lion Whisperer' for his amazing rapport with lions is probably one of the world's most fearless men alive. He lives, eats and plays with lions in his wildlife sanctuary in Pretoria, South Africa, one of the few people in the world that have the privilege. The pictures show one of the majestic animals climbs onto the bonnet of a Mercedes SUV and two others wrestle with Mr Richardson in his wildlife sanctuary in Pretoria, South Africa, in the playful series of photographs. But the pictures, shot by photographer Adrian Steirn, have a serious message - they are being used to raise awareness of the plight of the animals in Africa.
