Buhari Honors Sports Heroes At State House

President Muhammadu Buhari honored several athletes and sports icons at the State House. Among the athletes present was the 1985 Class of U-16 boys who won the inaugural FIFA Cadet World Cup title when Buhari was a military Head of State.

 

Also present were men and women basketballers, powerlifter, world scrabble champion Wellington Jighere, boxer Olanrewaju Durodola, the U-17 world champion footballers, and the U-23 Africa Cup of Nations winners.
 
The ceremony, which was brief but impressive, was attended by the Diplomatic Corps and other officials.

Monetary rewards were also handed out to the athletes, including N2 million for each of the 1985 FIFA U-16 World Cup winners, N1.2 million for the 2015 FIFA U-17 world champions, and N500,000 for each of the U-23 Africa Cup of Nations winners.

The President commended the efforts of the assembled athletes but urged them to continue to push for excellence.

President Buhari also paused for a moment of silence for the late Kingsley Aikhiobare, a member of the U-16 boys who died in 1996.

SOME OF YOU MEN ARE MONSTERS."   Then added:  "I found out on IG (Instagram) this morning that my fiance for 3 years had done his traditional wedding last weekend."     She went ahead to curse the man after revealing that she paid for his Master's degree in the United Kingdom.   "Taiwo, It will never be well with you."  she added.   As of now, the lady's heart is shattered as she revealed the incident has left her torn.

The vehicle conveying the students    A ghastly motor accident has claimed the lives of 14 students of The Polytechnic, Ibadan according to wide reports from the students of the school. The accident occurred at about 6pm on Monday, 8th of January along Oyo/Ibadan Expressway. A commercial driver has taken his own life after his favourite candidate, Umana Okon Umana lost out at the the apex court in the gubernatorial race.   A taxi driver identified simply as Etefia, has allegedly committed suicide in Akwa Ibom State after the Supreme Court upheld the election of Governor Udom Emmanuel of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), flooring the All Progressive Congress (APC), Umanah Okon Umanah , who had challenged the initial victory of the governor.
