14 Poly Ibadan Students Die in Fatal Road Crash (Photos)

A ghastly motor accident has claimed the lives of 14 students of
The Polytechnic, Ibadan according to wide reports from the students of
the school.
The accident occurred at about 6pm on Monday, 8th of January along Oyo/Ibadan Expressway. The accident involved a Hummer Bus of the Quantity Surveying Department of the institution which was conveying some students and staff of the department to Oyo state on an academic trip.
It was gathered that the tyre of the 18- seater bus burst in motion and the bus somersaulted. A conflicting figure of passengers reportedly died on the spot while others gave up the ghost later at the Adeoyo State hospital where they were rushed to for urgent medical attention.
Other victims were rushed to the Oyo Town General Hospital for treatment. New Telegraph however quoted the Public Relations Officer, of the insitution, Mr Soladoye Adewole, as saying:
“I just got the news not quite long. We have not been able to
ascertain the number of deaths, but we have actually recorded some
deaths. Our Director of Medical Services and Registrar Mr Ezekiel
Fehintola have gone to the scene. We have not been given full details
of the incident”
Every school activities has been suspended till next week. One of
the Student Union leaders took to his Facebook page to share this
message below:
"It is with an heavy heart that we disclose that students of
the Department of Quantity Survey, Poly Ibadan are involved in a ghastly
accident yesterday on their way from Oyo town. So far 14 out of 18
casualties have given up the ghost. The other 4 are in a very delicate
state of health at University College Hospital right now. These hope of
the nation need our prayers for them to win the battle against death
gallantly now. Let's pray for their survival"
