APC Governorship Candidate, Akeredolu 'Soars High' Amidst Party Crisis

Rotimi Akeredolu

As the All Progressives Congress swept Edo State following a stunning victory by Godwin Obaseki, the attention of the ruling party turns next to Ondo State where a former President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Rotimi Akeredolu popularly known as Aketi will be flying the flag of the party with a reformed slogan tagged 'Total Change'.

Akeredolu's emergence at the highly contested APC primary election in Ondo on the 3rd of September where he victoriously outlasted 23 other candidates attracted skirmishes he seems to be shaking off like a prepared warrior.

Akeredolu was shocked by a teeming crowd of supporters at his recent public appearance in Akure despite the short notice of his movement. Hundreds of Ondo indigenes abandoned their daily productive engagements to focus on who seems like the messiah to them after an unconvincing rulership of Governor Olusegun Mimiko that has lasted for 8 years.

Some religious-heads have likened Akeredolu's appearance to the triumphant entry of 'Jesus Christ' in Jerusalem where he was hailed as the messiah. Akeredolu has reiterated his strong desire to diversify the local economy of Ondo which has been detrimentally depending on oil rents from the federal government coupled with the antics of political corruption.

As the political climate in Ondo appears to 'meteriologists' this could be the next Governor of the state following the abysmal unpopularity of his closest rival, Eyitayo Jegede of the People's Democratic Party.

Only time can tell as time is the greatest revealer.
