This startling photograph is acknowledged as one of the most horrifying photographs shot ever since the camera was invented. Notice the vulture waïting for the child to die. This photo was shot in 1994 and won the Pulitzer Prize. The location is Sudan, outside a UN warehouse for storing food and grain received as humanitarian aid. Nobody knows what happened to the child. But Kevin Carter broke down mentally after taking this picture and ultimately committed suicide within 3 months of taking this picture. This is what Kevin Carter wrote in his diary which was recovered after his death: "Dear God, I promise I will never waste my food no matter how bad it can taste and how full I may be. I pray that He will protect this little boy, guide and deliver him away from his misery. I pray that we will be more sensitive towards the world around us and not be blinded by our own selfish nature and interests. I hope this picture will always serve as a reminder to us that how fortunate we ar...
Rihanna’s launch of her new perfume “RiRi” at a Macy’s in Brooklyn was crashed by anti-fur protesters on Monday. The animal rights activists noisily interrupted the event and slammed the singer for wearing fur before being removed by security. As you can see in the footage below, Macy’s security officers and members of Rihanna’s own security team got into a scuffle with protesters who chanted and held up anti-fur signs. The guards pulled down the demonstrators’ signs, which said such things as “Who Died For Your Coat?” and “Skinned Alive,” alongside images of dead and skinned animals. The picketers also repeatedly yelled “Shame on Rihanna” while marching through the department store. PETA previously slammed Rihanna in September 2012 after photos were released of the singer wearing snakeskin boots.

The one that got away: Real Madrid looked to have netted De Gea, and then... Manchester United have accused Real Madrid of torpedoing their own bid to signDavid De Gea. As the bitter war of words between the two football giants escalated, the Old Trafford giants rubbished claims they were to blame for the deal collapsing late on Monday. They believe Real president Florentino Perez started having doubts about the transfer and that the process was deliberately delayed so it did not get over the line before the Spanish transfer deadline at 11pm (UK time). A package worth £29million, which would have seen De Gea join Real and fellow keeper Keylor Navas come the other way to United, was agreed by both parties. The 24-year-old had wanted to move to Madrid, where his pop-star girlfriend Edurne Garcia is based. The singer has told friends: "I'm very disappointed with what has happened." The farce left both clubs pointing fingers at eac...
A Forte Oil filling station which belongs to Nigerian billionaire and business mogul, Femi Otedola has been slammed with a staggering fine by the Kano state government. A committee set up by Kano State governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, to prevent hoarding of petrol and selling above official rate, has fined a Forte Oil filling station in the state the sum of N4.2million, according to Premium Times. The state commissioner for Commerce, Rabiu Bako, who is the chairman of the committee, told a correspondent by phone that the station was fined for both hoarding of the product and selling above pump price at night. Mr. Bako said the stipulated penalty for a filling station found hiding petroleum products and selling above pump price was to make it pay fine by doubling the official pump price of their existing product. He added that at the time of the clamp down, the station had already disposed of 26,000 litres from the 34,000 litres allocated to it. The commissi...

Photograph: Dylan Martinez/Reuters Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal lifts the FA Cup. Photograph: Mike Egerton/PA Updated at 8.32pm BST Share 11h ago 20:13 There you go. A game that took a while to get going ended brilliantly. Jason Puncheon, off the bench, scored to put Crystal Palace ahead and made sure Alan Pardew left an enduring image of him dancing (terribly). Within three minutes Juan Mata had United level and his replacement, Jesse Lingard, scored the winner in extra-time with a stunning volley after Chris Smalling was sent off for a second yellow card. “This is fantastic to win this title for the club, the fans … and also for me,” Louis van Gaal says on TV. “Now I have won the cup in four countries. Not many managers can say that. I am very happy. We have deserved it I think.” It was tight and tense but they probably sh...
Ali Modu Sheriff The crisis within the national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party is far from over, with Ali Modu Sheriff claiming he remained the national chairman of the party, despite being sacked by a national convention. Mr. Sheriff was sacked at the PDP convention held on Saturday in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, and the National Executive Committee which he headed, replaced with a caretaker committee. Inuwa Bwala, the spokesperson for Mr. Sheriff, told Premium Times around 8.41pm on Saturday that Mr. Sheriff remained opposed to what happened at the Port Harcourt convention, since he had announced its suspension after consulting with members of the National Working Committee of the party. “Immediately the chairman (Sheriff) received another court injunction, he called a meeting of the National Working Committee and told them that it wasn’t safe to continue with the convention of the party, especially since the court had forbidden elections virtua...
