Court Sacks PDP Acting Chairman, Uche Secondus

Acting Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Uche Secondus was yesterday sacked by the High Court of the Federal Territory (FCT), Maitama, Abuja. Acting PDP Chairman, Uche Secondus   Justice Hussein Baba-Yusuf of the High Court of the Federal Territory (FCT), Maitama, Abuja on Tuesday, December 15 sacked the Acting Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Uche Secondus.   In a judgment in a suit by Ahmed Gulak, a former political adviser to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, the judge held that Secondus was occupying the party’s chairmanship seat illegally.   Justice Baba-Yusuf noted that Secondus was from Rivers State and not Northeast geopolitical zone to which the PDP zoned the position.   He gave Secondus 14 days within which to vacate the office and directed that the plaintiff or any other party member worthy of that position should take Secondus’ place.   Lawyer to the PDP and Secondus, Chuwan Isaiah Paul, said the part...

Deeper Life Church Ordered to Pay Celestial Church N5million

The Court of Appeal, Lagos Division has ordered the Registered Trustees of Deeper Christian Life Ministry (DCLM) to pay N5 million as damages for trespass on land owned by the Celestial Church of Christ (CCC). This means that the Appeal Court upheld an earlier judgement by a Lagos High Court.     It was gathered that the CCC had, through its representative, Joseph Ebhodaghe, sued DCLM over a disputed land measuring approximately 1055.864 square meters, situated at Mulero area of Agege and registered as No. 75 Volume 2004T at the Lagos State Land Registry, Ikeja.   At the High Court, Justice Candide-Johnson in a judgment delivered on January 17, 2014, declared Celestial Church as the rightful owner of the disputed land and awarded N5m as damages against Deeper Life.   The court also granted a perpetual injunction restraining DCLM, its agents or servants from further trespass on the disputed land.   But, DCLM dissatisfied with the ...

Lucky Irabor, disclosed this at a news conference in Biu on Sunday.   He said the arms and ammunition were hidden in bunkers made by the terrorists. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the deceased was buried after a commendation service by the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) on Saturday. Speaking at the burial ceremony, Gov. Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa said Alamieyeseigha’s demise was a trying time to the people of Ijaw nation. Dickson described him as “a bridge builder” who believed in what is right for his people. “A bridge builder has departed in our state; a man who knows what is right and just. “We know we have lost a true hero but we have put ourselves together and pray for his gentle soul to rest in peace,” he said. Lightning Strikes Kill 107 People...See Tragic Details

Lightning bolts striking through the sky have killed up to 107 persons who are mostly rural dwellers.   Cambodian National Committee for Disaster Management, said 107 Cambodians, mostly rural dwellers, had been killed by lightning strikes in 2015, up 42.6 percent from the 75 deaths in 2014. Keo Vy, Spokesman for the Management, said on Tuesday in Phnom Penh that besides the fatalities, thunderbolts had injured 77 others last year, up 35 per cent from the 57 injuries in a year earlier. He said the casualties rose because torrential rains with thunder, lightning and strong wind had happened more often last year. Vy said lightning strikes occur every year in Cambodia, particularly in rainy season from May through October. He advised that to avoid the dangers from lightning strikes, people should stay in homes or shelters when there are strong rains.
