At the High Court sitting in Kano today, a man identified as Kabiru Sani who stabbed his friend to death during a heated argument over a football match in 2011, was sentenced to death. The court found Kabiru Sani of Brigade Quarters, Nasarawa Local Government Area of the state, guilty after years of trial. Justice Faruk Lawan said Kabiru's act contravened Section 221 (2) of the Penal Code and that he was guilty as charged. He sentenced him to death by hanging.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Monday, April 20, 2015 arraigned one Stephen Omaidu before Justice M. A Nasir of Federal Capital Territory High Court sitting in Jabi, Abuja on a two count charge bordering on theft to the tune of N68, 028, 000, 000.00 (sixty eight billion and twenty eight million naira).   Omaidu, in connivance with Alhaji K. B Kabiru, Godswill Oyegwa, Ben and Oliver (all at large) allegedly hacked into the server of a second generation bank and transferred the sum of sixty eight billion, and twenty eight million naira into different accounts for personal gains. The offence is punishable under section 287 of the Penal Code Act. Following his “not guilty” plea, counsel to EFCC, S. A Ugwuebgulam asked the court to fix a date for trial to commence. The judge, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, however gave Mofor an option to pay N10, 000 fine and warned him to desist from committing crimes. A Kado Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Wednesday sentenced a 23-year-old car washer, Prosper Mofor to two months in prison for theft. He also ordered the convict to pay N30, 000 to the nominal complainant. The convict, of Jabi Village, Abuja, was convicted for one-count charge levelled against him. Mofor prayed the court to temper justice with mercy, claiming that hunger pushed him into committing the crime. Earlier, the prosecutor, Salisu Khaleel, told the court that one Mariam Ibrahim of same address with the convict reported the matter at the Life Camp Police Station, Abuja, on March 19. He was accused of being the mastermind of the pirate attack and hijacking of the vessel.    Below is the statement in full; "It was earlier reported that a vessel, MT MAXIMUS with 18 crew members and carrying 4,368.203MT of Gas Oil was hijacked on 11 February 2016 by a group of suspected pirates off Cote d’Ivoire waters. Consequently, the Nigerian Navy deployed for rescue operations. The vessel was eventually rescued on 19 February 2016 within Sao Tome waters 320 nautical miles (nm) off the Nigerian coast. During the rescue operation, 6 pirates were arrested, while one of them was killed. Items recovered from the pirates include weapons and mobile telephones.
