In
what comes across as a rather shocking incident, a man killed his own
wife and then called the police to inform them of what he has just done
"I just shot and killed my wife," Hawkins said before spelling his name for the dispatcher.
In the recording of the 911 call, he said shot her multiple times with a .40 caliber Sig Sauer handgun.
"It's on the sink. I'm not a threat to anybody," he said. "I'm a former police officer. I'm not sure what happened."
The dispatcher asked Hawkins what happened as police rushed to scene around 11 a.m. where they later found the woman dead.
"She took all the money out of our bank account on my birthday
on Saturday and you guys were out here a couple times. I don't know," he
said. "She was gone, and when I came home she was here. She just
wouldn't talk to me and she just kept saying 'Talk to my lawyer.' I
don't know. It just happened."
His voice broke.
"God, forgive me. God," he said.
Hawkins was surrendered to police without incident, Colerain police
spokesman Jim Love said. He confirmed that Hawkins was not a police
officer for any agencies in the region.
The 57-year-old Hawkins is facing a murder charge and is scheduled
to be arraigned Tuesday at 9 a.m. at the Hamilton County Justice Center.
The identity of the victim has not been released. Love said the process of contacting her family was ongoing.
Neighbours huddled together, consoled each other and offered
information to police while the crime scene was being investigated. More
than a dozen neighbours from nearby homes gathered near the outside.
