Explosion Rocks Shell Trunkline in Ogoniland, Rivers State (Photos)

Trunkline explosion in Goi community   A trunk line which belongs to the Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) carrying crude oil in the Goi community in the Ogoniland area of Rivers State was engulfed in fire and flames on Monday morning.    An environmental activist, Celestine Akpobari, who visited the site, disclosed that the inferno occurred just a few meters away from a military surveillance post. According to her, the fire immediately followed the sound of an eruption affecting the Agbada/Bomu trunk line.   "Goi, another Ogoni community, is on fire this early morning from an eruption on the 28-inch Agbada/Bomu trunkline belonging to Shell, which is just a few meters from the surveillance post. This is Bad: One Shot Dead as Task Force Demolish Shanties in Lagos Community, Residents Sleep in Canoes (Photos)

    Operatives attached to the Lagos State Task Force on Environmental and Special Offences (Enforcement) Unit in company with some marine policemen and hoodlums, have reportedly demolished no fewer than 150 structures on waterfronts in Otondogbame, in the Lekki area of Lagos State.   According to Punch Metro, the operatives stormed the community around 5am on Sunday, shooting indiscriminately, during which a resident, identified as a 20-year-old David Aya, was killed by a stray bullet.   It was gathered that several others, including one Monday Idowu, were also said to have sustained gunshot injuries as the team wet the structures with kerosene and set fire to them.   Photos released online showed that some of the displaced residents, who had yet to find alternative settlements, stayed on boats.     While speaking with a correspondent, a resident identified as Jonathan Zosu, disclosed that the demolition was carried out w...

President Buhari   In a statement issued on Wednesday by Segun Adeyemi, the special adviser to Lai Mohammed, Minister of Information and Culture, the President Buhari-led federal government has appointed Bayo Onanuga, editor-in-chief of TheNews, as the managing director of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).   In all, six new chief executives have been appointed to replace those who were disengaged in some parastatals of the federal ministry of information and culture on February 15th 2016.   The new Chief Executives are:   1. Ali Modu Sheriff    The crisis within the national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party is far from over, with Ali Modu Sheriff claiming he remained the national chairman of the party, despite being sacked by a national convention. Mr. Sheriff was sacked at the PDP convention held on Saturday in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, and the National Executive Committee which he headed, replaced with a caretaker committee.
