he stole inside the banking hall.

Drama started after a mobile phone, Techno M6, belonging to one of
the cashiers in the banking hall, suddenly disappeared moments after he
finished attending to a customer. Immediately the cashier realised his
phone had disappeared, he raised the alarm.
According to NewTelegraph, there were repeated calls that anyone
who took the phone should bring it out, but all maintained their
innocence. This stoic innocence of all staff and customers, forced the
bank’s security guards to embark on a search of everyone in the banking
hall. There were gasps of shock and outrage when the phone was recovered
from a serving corps member, Mohammed Aminu Tukur. The suspect was said
to have vehemently refused to be searched.
That gave him away and the security men forcefully searched him
only to recover the phone. Tukur, from Kastina State and a ‘Batch B’
corps member, serving in the state, had gone to the bank for transaction
when he stole the cashier’s phone. Eye witnesses said that when Tukur
got to the bank, he tried to hurry the cashier, insisting he was in a
hurry.
The banker immediately started facilitating Tukur’s transaction,
especially since he was a corps member. Unknown to him, Tukur was
strategizing on how to steal the cashier's Techno M6 on his table. When
the cashier excused himself to speak with a colleague sitting not too
far from him. Before he returned, Tukur had already collected the phone,
removed the battery and hid it inside his pocket.
The sudden disappearance of the phone made the cashier worried. He
raised the alarm, attracting the attention of most customers, staff and
branch manager.
An eye witness said: “The bank’s branch manager appealed to all
customers in the banking hall to bring out phones which didn’t belong
to them. But everyone denied having possession of the phone.
"This prompted the Customer Care Unit of the bank to order for a ‘Stop and Search’ of the customers at the bank’s entrance.
“Every customer was subjected to a search, but Tukur refused to
be searched. He angrily told the security guards conducting the search
not to search him.
"He said it was against his Muslim faith. All efforts made to
search him, proved abortive as he resisted. The manager alerted
policemen from the nearest police station.
“When the policemen landed, they approached Tukur for search.
He still maintained his earlier stand. The policemen overpowered him.
"They searched him and discovered the cell phone inside his pocket.”
One of the policemen, a Muslim, was angry and disgusted, with
Tukur. He said Tukur was a disgrace to Islam. The policemen whisked
Tukur away for further investigation. Tukur said he was pushed to steal
the phone by the devil.
His words: “It’s the devil that lured me into this type of
mess. I wouldn’t have ordinarily stolen a cell phone. I’m finished! Look
at what I have caused myself. I am a corps member. I don’t know what
will be my fate after what I had done.
"I have caused myself public embarrassment.” Tukur pleaded for forgiveness, promising never to indulge in such act again.
He said: “I won’t try this type of thing again. It has caused
me lots of damages. I’m begging for forgiveness. The police and bank
officials should forgive me.”
