N60b Approved for Constituency Projects

Chairman, House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Hon. Abdulrazak Namdas, disclosed this on Thursday in Abuja while speaking to journalists.

President Muhammadu Buhari

Following the rapprochement between the Presidency and the National Assembly over the grey areas in the 2016 Appropriation Bill, President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the allocation of N60 billion for the execution of special intervention projects for members of the legislature.

The lawmaker described as misleading and false, media reports that the money will be handed over to lawmakers to execute the projects in their various constituencies, asserting that the projects will be executed by Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) while the National Assembly members will determine the type of projects, and where they should be domiciled.
He declared that no member of the National Assembly had received a single kobo for the execution of the constituency projects when it is common knowledge that the 2016 budget hasn’t been assented to by Buhari.
Namdas said: “The president graciously approved N60 billion for zonal intervention projects. It’s not given as cash to National Assembly members but we’re allowed to choose project and where they should be domiciled.

“These intervention projects were not initiated by us but by the executive. This is the global practice and is not peculiar to Nigeria.”
