Man to Sentenced to Death by Hanging for Murdering His Friend Over Football Game in Kano

At the High Court sitting in Kano today, a man identified as Kabiru Sani who stabbed his friend to death during a heated argument over a football match in 2011, was sentenced to death.
The court found Kabiru Sani of Brigade Quarters, Nasarawa Local Government Area of the state, guilty after years of trial.
Justice Faruk Lawan said Kabiru's act contravened Section 221 (2) of the Penal Code and that he was guilty as charged.
He sentenced him to death by hanging.

Joint Task Force Arrests Top Commander of Niger Delta Militant Group

  A top Commander of the Urhobo/Isoko militant group, Niger Delta Greenland Justice Mandate (NDGJM), has been nabbed by the operatives of the Joint Task Force (JTF) code-named Operation Delta Safe.   It would be recalled that the NDGJM kickstarted full scale militant operations in the oil rich region after the foremost group Niger Delta Avengers announced a ceasefire after a tentative agreement with the Federal Government. Security sources told ThisDay newspaper on Monday night that the high profile suspect was apprehended on Sunday after diligent surveillance by JTF operatives. The Federal Government has been freed from thousands of ghost workers engaging in the wastage of governmental resources without service. Kemi Adeosun   The Nigerian government said on Sunday that about 23,846 ghost workers were being removed monthly from its payroll, according to Premium Times. The Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, said consequently about N2.293 billion was reduced from the total salary bill for the ministries, departments and agencies MDAs for February 2016 when compared to December 2015 when the BVN audit process commenced. The minister said the ghost workers were uncovered in payrolls of various MDAs during the ongoing bank verification number (BVN)-based staff audit and enrolment to the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS). Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa said Alamieyeseigha’s demise was a trying time to the people of Ijaw nation.
