List of World's 100 Most Powerful People on Earth

1. Vladimir Putin 
Vladimir Putin has been named the world's most powerful person for the second year running by Forbes magazine. The 63-year-old Russian president has, unsurprisingly, retained his position at the top of the Forbes ranking of the world’s most powerful people.
 
Forbes says the decision is made on the amount of money they control; the number of people they impact; their total spheres of influence; and how actively they wield their power. And in all areas Mr Putin has triumphed; he dominates one of the world’s largest countries, and his actions in Ukraine and Syria are changing the course of history.
 
2. Angela Merkel
The German chancellor is rated as the second most powerful person on earth. She rose from fifth place last year to occupy the position this time around.  Her preeminence in Europe, particularly in respect to negotiations with Greece, coupled with her influential handling of the migrant crisis, have seen her rise in the rankings. She has also been named by the magazine as the most powerful woman in the world for the past 10 years.
 
3. Barack Obama
Outgoing president of United States, Barack Obama comes third this year. The president who will soon leave power is rated third behind Vladimir Putin and Angela Merkel. Bill Clinton is the only former president to make the list, at 64th place. Her rival for the White House, Donald Trump also made the list.
 
4. Pope Francis
The Argentine pontiff’s position is unmoved on this year’s list, and the past 12 months have seen the 78-year-old continue to travel the world and surprise people. His visit to the US and Cuba in September was greeted by wild crowds, and his comments on climate change, immigration and persecution in the Middle East have seen him set the news agenda.
 
5. Xi Jinping
China’s 62-year-old leader has been described as the country’s most powerful ruler since Mao Tse-Tung. His assertive positioning in the South China Sea, rare address to the UN General Assembly, and high international profile have kept him in the headlines, as has his visit last month to Britain. This week he will become the first ever Chinese leader to meet with his counterpart in Taiwan.
 
The only Nigerian who made the list of the world's most powerful people on earth is no other than business magnate and Africa's richest man, Aliko Dangote. He is ranked number 71 in the world.

Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, has finally crowned Oba Olaniyi Adediwura as new Obalufe amidst tight security. Lagos to Impose Death Sentence on Kidnappers

Lagos State Governor, Akinwumi Ambode Lagos State Government may soon join the growing number of states including Edo, Ogun and Anambra that have imposed death sentence on kidnappers, Vanguard reports. According to a private member bill sponsored by the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mr. Mudashiru Obasa, “any person, who kidnaps, abducts, detains or captures or takes another person by any means or tricks with intent to demand ransom or do anything against his/her, will commit an offence, and liable to a conviction of death sentence. The Abducted Channels TV reporter Regains Freefom

The Channels Television reporter in Imo State,Mr. Enyitope Kutiyi, was rescued from à thick forest at Uhuba town, in Ohaji/Egbema Council Area of the state. The reporter, who was kidnapped on Monday has regained his freedom on after police launched massive manhunt for his abductors. He disclosed that the kidnappers had spies that had been calling on telephone informing them of every police moves thereby changing locations at will. The released reporter stated he embarked on hunger strike for his two days of captivity to avoid been poisoned his abductors. Mr Kutiyi was brought out from the forest on Owerri-PortHarcout expressway. He described his abducutors as educated and smart people saying that the kidnappers told him that they embarked on crimes as a result of employment.
