Osinbajo’s wife urges wealthy Nigerians to empower more women

Speaking at the 6th African Digital TV Development Seminar in Beijing, China, on Thursday, he said that the decision to engage in shared- experiences and synergy, on a continental level, was reached by the African Ministers in charge of Information and Communication, who attended the 3rd Forum on China-Africa Media Co-operation also in Beijing, which preceded the Seminar.

Wife of the Vice-President, Mrs. Dolapo Osinbajo, has charged wealthy Nigerians to embark upon women empowerment, in order to reduce the level of poverty and crime rate in the society.

She made the remark while speaking at the graduation of more than 800 Imo people who were trained to acquire various skills by the Mrs. Osinbajo Pet Project, “PROJECT AYODELE” at the Imo State International Convention Centre, Owerri, stressing that empowering those who needed empowerment in the society would definitely reduce poverty and crime.

She said that “the Foundation PROJECT AYODELE was set up in memory of my mother, who died four years ago.  So, this foundation is an honour to her memory.  Training people on skills that can be turned speedily into cash was a move to empower our people and stop poverty and crime in the nation.”

According to her, “I have come to Imo State to celebrate men and women that have graduated today under the auspices of PROJECT AYODELE. With the training and the skills acquired, those involved can take care of themselves.  We did not know many years ago when we started the project, that I will end up as the wife of the Vice-President.  And I didn’t know, too, that I could be in Imo for that.”

She said, “Where you are today have nothing to do with where you are going tomorrow.  I pray for the participants. Whatever they have learnt would take them to a higher height.  I was just watching the video about the 200 homes built for indigent women by the wife of Imo governor, Mrs. Nkechi Okorocha. I congratulate her for that feat.  The Imo governor’s heart is large that it continues to speak so plainly from. ”

Governor Rochas Okorocha in his remarks, wondered why Nigerians should be singing the song of poverty amidst wealth and knowledge.  “We have 200 million Nigerians and over one million millionaires and billionaires.  If we make a law that every billionaire or millionaire must engage or empower 200 people, one will discover that the 200 million will be self-sufficient and poverty will disappear”.

Elumelu urges students to embrace entrepreneurship

A philanthropist, Tony Elumelu, has urged Nigerian students to embrace entrepreneur skills alongside their academic studies.

Elumelu, who is Chairman Heirs Holdings, UBA Plc and Founder of the Tony Elumelu Foundation (TEF), said this at the Loyola Jesuit Memorial College, in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

He told the students that the world had changed in a way that they should also respond to by changing their expectations after leaving school from seeking a job to creating jobs.

The Jesuit Memorial College (JCM) was set up to honour the memory of the 60 students of the Loyola Jesuit School, in Abuja, who lost their lives in a plane crash, in Port Harcourt, on December 10, 2005. The school serves as a beacon of hope, where children are given the opportunity to get a sound education and have a chance to contribute to building a brighter future for this country.

Speaking on behalf of the school, Dame Aleruchi Cookey-Gam, a former SSG and Attorney-General, commended the Tony Elumelu Foundation and the impact it has had on the lives of young people.

African nations to work together on transition to digital broadcasting – Minister

African nations have agreed to work together in their quest to successfully transit from Analogue to Digital broadcasting, the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has said.

“It is indeed worrisome that so far, only two African nations have successfully transited to Digital broadcasting. Others are in various stages of transition. It is, therefore, imperative that we all work together to achieve our set goal.

“In this regard, let me formally announce that the African Ministers in charge of Information and Communication, who are attending this seminar have agreed on the need for all African nations to jointly face the transition challenge, with a view to enhancing their success in meeting the deadline”, he said.
